St. Louis news, Missouri news.

The family of two teens who had died in an apparent murder-suicide Friday morning said that the double shooting was a “freak accident.”

Yet the St. Louis Police Department believes the 12-year-old girl had intentionally shot her 14-year-old cousin and then shot herself while streaming the horrific ordeal live on Instagram.

“Everybody was getting together to celebrate, and so the younger kids, they got a bed and breakfast,” the girl’s distraught mom told reporters.

“And then when she picked it up, she picked it up by the barrel and it went off. That’s all I know…it was not a suicide. It was just a freak accident.”

The family’s narrative is being investigated. The two teens sustained fatal shots to the heads and were pronounced dead at the scene.
