Former St. Louis correctional officer admits allowing 2 inmates into another’s cell where they assaulted him, broke his jaw

A former St. Louis jail correctional officer had confessed Wednesday to her role in the March attack that left a detainee with a broken jaw and a lost tooth.

Demeria Thomas, however, did not reveal the motive that prompted her to allow two inmates into the cell of “P.W.” on March 22 and watch as he was being kicked and punched for minutes.

  • Even after the attack, Thomas hid the inmate’s need for treatment for two days. The victim did not remember the attack that was caught on a surveillance camera.

    Thomas faces up to four years behind bars when sentenced on May 10. She will likely have to pay the victim’s medical bills.

    She also faces a third-degree assault felony in St. Louis Circuit Court.
