Alabama man attacks family with samurai sword, killing his mother

A 23-year-old Alabama man was arrested Sunday night after he went on a bloody rampage with a samurai sword killing his mother and wounding two other relatives.

Mobile County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the family home on Mausap Road in Semmes to find 61-year-old Helen Nettles Washam dead.

Two men were suffering lacerations at the scene; they were identified as George Washam, 52, and Desmon Washam.

    Desmon, the suspect’s brother, suffered lacerations to the wrist; He told detectives that Damien Winslow Washam attacked them with a sword before taking off.

    After locating the suspect’s car, deputies tried to pull him over but were forced to use spike strips to stop him. The crime weapon was found in the passenger seat of his car.

    Washam was charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, and attempting to allude.
