Madison news, Wisconsin news.

The trial of Chandler Halderson, the 23-year-old Wisconsin man accused of killing and dismembering his parents last July, was halted after he tested positive for Covid.

Halderson’s attorneys notified the court of the diagnosis Tuesday. The trial will resume on or around Jan. 18, depending on the defendant’s recovery.

Bart and Krista Halderson went missing with their son telling investigators that they had left for a vacation; their dismembered bodies were later discovered, within six days, in rural Dane County and along the Wisconsin River.

“It kind of became real strong, kind of like the pungent smell,” witness Steven Greiber said.

“To the point that I actually walked down my driveway half the distance and kind of looked up and down the street to see if anybody was doing anything like grilling, or something else was going on, and I didn’t see anything at that point.”
