Amtrak passenger gunned down onboard train; suspect at large

Missouri authorities are currently looking for the gunman who shot and killed an Amtrak passenger Friday.

The victim, identified as 31-year-old Richie Aaron Jr., was shot dead shortly before 9 p.m. while the Amtrak was stopped at Lee’s Summit station.

Authorities said that Aaron was not reported injured at the time and that the train kept its way to Independence where police were finally notified and medics arrived at the scene to pronounce him dead.

  • “Amtrak is supporting local authorities who are investigating a tragic incident last night involving two passengers on Train 313,” Amtrak said in a statement.

    “One of the passengers is a fatality, while the other left the scene in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.”

    “There were no injuries to the other 81 passengers and the Amtrak crew and they were all provided alternate transportation to their final destination.”

    “Amtrak takes its responsibility for safe travel seriously,” the statement concluded.
