Oklahoma man drowns litter of puppies in creek believing ‘something would just eat them’

A Grove, Oklahoma man was arrested in cruelty to animals’ charges after a cardboard box containing newborn puppies belonging to him was discovered in a creek.

Denver K. Cooper was arrested following the September 2020 incident that was reported by a couple walking along the bank of the Cave Springs Branch creek.

A cardboard box containing three dead puppies had been recovered from the scene. A fourth puppy was found nearby on the creek bank.

  • Investigators tracked down the animals to the 32-year-old suspect who claimed he abandoned the puppies because “they were stillborn.”

    An autopsy later revealed that the dead puppies had milk in their stomachs and had fleas. When confronted with the findings, “Cooper then admitted to getting rid of the puppies and throwing them in to the creek while they were alive.”

    “I thought something would just eat them,” Cooper reportedly answered when asked why he did such a cruel thing.
