A Florida soldier was arrested on Christmas Day after doctors at a Pasco County hospital discovered that a 3-month-old baby had suffered three jaw-fractures, brain hemorrhage while in his care.

Brandon Uffre, 25, claimed that he “tripped” while holding the infant on Dec. 24 and decided not to tell the baby’s mother over fears he “would get into trouble.”

But the infant’s jaw became swollen, prompting the mother to take him to a hospital, where she learned about the injuries.

The only possibilities the boy would have suffered those injuries “were if the victim had been in a serious car accident or child abuse.”

Uffre told detectives that he was not involved in a car crash while caring for the baby which led to his arrest. He was released on bond two days later.
