A Chester, Pennsylvania girl was found dead in her bedroom on Sunday after attempting the TikTok blackout challenge, her parents said.
The dangerous trend incites users to hold their breath until passing out and film the dare that would later grant them thousands of fans.
“Make sure you check your kids’ phones,” Nyla Anderson’s grieving mom told local media outlets. “You never know what you might find on their phones.”
“You wouldn’t think 10-year-olds would try this. They’re trying because they’re kids and they don’t know better.”
10-year-old Nyla’s family never knew the girl was interested in the blackout challenge until finding her unconscious in her room.
“She was everything. She was a happy child. This is a pain that won’t go away. It’s at the top of my throat. I am so hurt,” the distraught mother said.
