Georgia felon arrested in woods after beating girlfriend to death with hammer

A Georgia man with an extensive rap sheet is back in jail on murder charges after he allegedly beat his girlfriend to death with a hammer.

Ashley Dunn was pronounced dead by responding Bartow County Sheriff deputies after they were alerted to domestic violence in progress.

  • Police used a drone to search for the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Cory James Slaughter, before locating him in a nearby wooded area.

    Slaughter was charged with murder, aggravated assault, battery, and trespassing. He is a known figure to local authorities with the last arrest on November 16 on shoplifting charges.

    He spent jailtime in 2013, 2018, and 2020 and had been convicted of aggravated assault and obstruction charges
