Accidental shooting at Kentucky dispatcher center leaves operator dead: ‘They were cousins and best friends’

An accidental shooting at a Kentucky dispatch center had left an operator dead on Friday, Bell County Sheriff Mitch Williams said.

23-year-old Kyle Garrett was fatally shot by his cousin and best friend Colton Garrett while they traded firearms at their workplace.

  • “They grew up together and shared the hobby of casual gun trading,” the Sheriff said. “This is a tragedy that you can never prepare for.”

    “We are asking for prayers for the family of Kyle and Colton. We also ask that you pray for the dispatchers, deputies, and first responders that work alongside them every day.”

    The sheriff added that protocols prohibit personnel from bringing weapons to the dispatch center. The incident is under investigation.
