Las Cruces news, New Mexico news.

A New Mexico child was pronounced dead on Nov. 22 shortly after several foster dogs attacked him at his grandfather’s home.

Avery Jackson Dunphy, 6-year-old, was left alone for “no more than 10 minutes” when he wandered into the enclosure of the dogs. When his grandfather returned, he was lying lifeless.

“Those dogs are back here with him, so I’m thinking a dog attacked him,” the grandfather told police.

The grieving father of the victim told reporters that his son’s short life “needs to be celebrated” and his passing could have been prevented.

Avery’s dream, the father added, was to grow up and become a firefighter, just like him.
