North Carolina infant, 8-day-old, mauled to death by pitbull

A North Carolina infant had been mauled to death early Wednesday morning by a pit bull, local news outlets report.

The eight-day-old was fatally attacked in a Kenly home and pronounced dead at around 5 a.m.

So far, no charges have been filed in connection to the deadly mauling incident. The dog was placed in Johnston County Animal Control.

  • “It is pretty painful to a young baby,” a neighbor told reporters. “The baby had no defense for itself.”

    Chief of Police Josh Gibson told local media that the attack was accidental but declined to give further details citing the ongoing investigation.

    Earlier this year, and in the same county, another infant was mauled to death by her family's two Rottweilers after her dad briefly left the home.
