Female Georgia deputy dies after sustaining injuries while responding to domestic incident

Georgia authorities announced the death Monday afternoon of a Jackson County Sheriff Deputy who had sustained gunshot wounds while responding to a domestic dispute late last week.

Deputy Lena Nicole Marshall spent days in critical condition before dying from her wounds at around 3:50 p.m. Monday.

  • The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that Marshall was one of several deputies to respond to a report of a “domestic situation” at 6416 Highway 124 West in Hoschton, Georgia.

    A fire exchange with a female suspect unfolded at around 9:20 p.m. The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Jessica Worsham, was later gunned down.

    “Please be in prayer for our injured deputy, the family, along with all the shift and coworkers of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Janis Mangum had posted on Facebook prior to Marshall’s passing.
