A 17-year-old Florida boy was shot and killed late Saturday night by responding officers after he pointed what appeared to be an AK-style rifle at cars.
Police said that they initially received several calls about a “white male wearing dark clothing pointing a military-style rifle” at drivers at around 9:30 p.m.
When responding officers showed up at the scene, Alexander King pointed the weapon at them, leading them to shoot him dead.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Alex King,” Police Chief Jeff Young said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the officers and their families as they, too, deal with the aftermath of this event.”
King, who was actually armed with an airsoft gun at the time of the deadly encounter, had at least 22 previous run-ins with law enforcement including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
