A Gainesville couple is behind bars in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl they were babysitting last weekend.
The parents of Valeria Jordon Garfias were at work Sunday when they left her in the care of their acquaintances, Juan Martinez, 31, and his 32-year-old wife Nancy Martinez.

Police said that between 12 and 2 p.m. that day, the Martinezes inflicted “traumatic brain injury and other internal injuries to the child’s body, resulting in her eventual death.”
Valeria was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center before being flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The couple is now facing first-degree cruelty to children charges as they remain jailed without bond.
