Pa. hospital shooting leaves nurse dead, 2 cops injured after heavily armed gunman swarmed facility ‘wearing scrubs’

An early Monday shooting at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has claimed the life of a nurse when a colleague showed up wearing scrubs and heavily armed.

Authorities said that a 55-year-old nursing assistant gunned down a 43-year-old male colleague at the facility before taking off in a U-Haul truck shortly after midnight.

Later on, officers tracked down the suspect’s vehicle and a shootout ensued, leaving two cops injured with one of them listed in critical condition.

  • The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and upper body and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. There is still no word about his condition.

    “We do believe that the other employee was targeted,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said.

    “The reason why, at this point, we still don’t know.”
