2 South Dakota inmates take off in vehicle from community service project

The South Dakota Department of Correction is actively looking for two escapees who left a community service project on a car Friday morning.

Thomas Wilson, 32, and Payton Laird, 22, remain at large after taking off during their assignment to a Sioux Falls community service project.

The inmates stole a white 2010 Buick Enclave with a Special Olympic license plate with the number WAR45, according to Official Michael Winder.

  • Wilson was described as standing 5-foot-11 and weighing around 160 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

    Laird is 5-foot-3 tall and weighs around 160 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

    The former is serving time for possession of a controlled substance and forgery. Laird is behind bars for burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
