Two small children have been rescued from the banks of the Rio Grande River where they had been left by migrants on Sept. 14.
Border Patrol Agents conducting “boat operations encountered two children”, after noticing their clothing colors.
“Agents quickly responded and safely retrieved both children,” the Customs and Border Protection release stated.
On Facebook, Del Rio Sector Interim Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia related the circumstances of the discovery.
“In this case, agents noticed a color they would normally not see in the river and turned back to investigate, discovering two small children,” a 2-year-old girl, and a 3-month-old boy.
“The children did not require medical attention and were transported to the Uvalde Station for processing.”
The CBP added that a note found with the baby confirmed both children were “nationals of Honduras.”
“It is heartbreaking and frustrating to know that there are children being abandoned without remorse or concern for their lives and wellbeing,” Garcia said.
“I commend our agents for their hard work and commitment during these unprecedented times. Honor First!”
