After two hours of deliberations, a jury convicted 45-year-old Kenny Wayne McBride of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life behind bars.
But during his Thursday sentencing hearing, McBride cursed at Judge Michael Weipert and shouted obscenities asking him “Did you think I was just going to go peacefully?”
In February 2020, McBride murdered his step-grandmother, Cecilia Gibson, at his father’s home, hitting her head 19 times with multiple objects including a ceramic piggy bank.
Prosecutors added that he then proceeded to mutilate her, decapitating the body with three different knives and tossing the head in the backyard.
“It is difficult to imagine the hatred that must have driven the defendant to commit such a brutal and horrifying murder,” Prosecutor Michael Roehrig said.
“The jury’s verdict was just, and will result in McBride living out the rest of his life in prison.”
