Mississippi student dies of Covid as Gov. ignores risks among children: ‘It is very rare they have anything other than sniffles’

A Mississippi girl who’d been attending all classes of the week had passed away Saturday after contracting the deadly Covid variant.

The unidentified girl was an eighth-grader at the Smith County Schools district that had required to masks a few days earlier after recording several Covid cases among students and staff.

  • Hours before the girl died of Covid complications, Gov. Tate Reeves kept downplaying the risks of the contamination among students and youngsters.

    “If you look at those individuals under the age of 12, what you find is that it is very rare that kids under the age of 12 have anything other than the sniffles,” Reeves said.

    “For those under 12 that are not currently eligible for the vaccine, it is highly unusual for there to be any significant effects.”
