Pentagon on lockdown after shooting at area transit station; at least 2 injured, gunman dead

At least two people sustained injuries when a gunman opened fire at a transit station not far from the Pentagon Tuesday morning prompting an emergency lockdown.

The shooting took place at a Metro bus platform, which is a part of the Pentagon Transit Center, and forced an immediate lockdown of the Pentagon’s offices.

Two people were spotted receiving life-saving treatment at the scene of the shooting. The gunman was reportedly neutralized before reaching the department.

  • “The Pentagon currently is on lockdown due to an incident at the Pentagon Transit Center. We are asking the public to please avoid the area,” the PFPA said in a tweet.

    Reports said that an officer was among the injured and was transported to a local hospital. The scene is steps away from the Department of Defense headquarters.

    The Arlington Fire and Emergency Medical Service described the situation on Twitter as “an active violence incident” with multiple victims.
