An Ohio inmate who was convicted of murdering a man thirty years ago walked free Thursday after a judge granted him a new trial.
John Tiedjen said that he thought he would never see daylight again but has now a great chance of clearing his name of a murder he insisted he never committed.
“First of all, I want to thank God, of course, and my attorney,” he said following his release.
Even though he is still under house arrest, Tiedjen has big plans for the future, including marrying Crystal Strauss, the sister of the murder victim.
“Against all odds. God put us together,” he commented.
Prosecutors are not convinced of Tiedjen’s innocence. Recently, they handed over a 1,000 pages long appeal but failed to sway the judge’s decision.
