Authorities in Pleasant Grove, Alabama said that a serial business robber has committed suicide behind the wheel after being pulled over by officers late Sunday.
41-year-old Tellis Tremaine Porterfield shot himself in the head at about 10:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Park Road.
Police Capt. Danny Reid said that as officers with the Pleasant Grove Department approached the suspect, he fired a shot to his head and was found slumped over the wheel of his car.
Reid added that when Porterfield was pulled over, it was because the vehicle he was riding had a stolen license plate.
The suspect was declared dead at 10:50 p.m. Sunday. Detectives said that he had previous run-ins with law enforcement over bank robberies during the last few months.
He was booked into jail for robbing two businesses, two pharmacies, and a PNC Bank before being released on bond.
