Ohio inmate considered ‘a risk’ hangs himself in prison cell

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation said that an inmate at Lucas County jail has hung himself Friday afternoon.

The death of the 36-year-old inmate is being investigated as a suicide after correctional officers found him hanging in his cell.

The prison guards knew that the unidentified inmate was a risk to himself and kept checking his cell every 10 minutes.

  • At around 4:28 p.m., he was found unresponsive. Officers notified jail officials and medical staff. Toledo Fire Rescue members also joined the life-saving measures.

    The man couldn’t be revived and was pronounced dead at 4:58 p.m.

    Authorities declined to reveal the decedent’s identity pending next-of-kin notification. He was booked into prison on July 9.
