Georgia Councilman in troubles after threatening woman at convenience store, calling her N-word

A Fort Valley, Georgia councilman is under fire after he allegedly called a woman the N-word several times and threatened to shoot her at a local highway convenience store earlier this month.

Jimmy Barnes was arrested and charged with assault and making terrorist threats in connection with the July 2 incident.

  • “In the heat of the moment sometimes people don’t know how to deescalate anger, we’ve seen it all over the country, everywhere,” Mayor Barbara Williams commented on the incident.

    Barnes was arrested on July 12 and released on a $50,000 bond three days later. He was ordered to wear an ankle monitor.

    Authorities did not reveal further details about the incident circumstances.
