A Texas officer has succumbed to his injuries while three others are fighting for life after an armed standoff with a gunman in Levelland Thursday night.
Omar Soto-Chavira, 22, had been out of jail for four days when he was reported to the police again over assault of relatives.
Sgt. Josh Bartlett was commanding the responding SWAT team that responded to Soto-Chavira’s residence at around 2:15 p.m.
Following a standoff, gunfire erupted, and “shots were fired everywhere”. Bartlett was pronounced dead at Covenant Medical Center after sustaining gunshot wounds.
“This senseless killing serves as a stark reminder of the danger our first responders face every day,” Mayor Dan Pope said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bartlett family and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department family.”
