A 77-year-old Connecticut man has his charges upgraded to murder after the May fatal shooting of his wife that he long claimed was accidental.
Albert Kokoth called his daughter and 911 claiming that he was showing 75-year-old Margaret Kokoth a gun before heading to a gun range when the weapon was accidentally discharged.
But detectives said that the victim was shot twice, in the head and torso, with a third bullet hitting the wall.
“Based on this evidence and additional information gathered during the investigation it was determined initial claims by Kokoth of an accidental shooting were not supported,” Lt. Jason Ferraro said.
A neighbor told authorities that he heard two shots at the couple’s residence with at least a 15-minute period between the shots.
The pair’s daughter testified that she was concerned over her mom’s safety and the suspect appeared to be “chuckled” while calling the police, according to authorities.
‘It’s now pretty clear that the defendant’s version of events is not consistent with the evidence,” Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Cummings said. “This appears to be an intentional act.”
