Authorities in Shenandoah, Texas have arrested two women who tried to steal a valuable French Bulldog puppy worth $11,500 earlier this week.

The suspects removed their vehicle’s license plate before targeting the puppy at Petland Woodlands store Monday at 12:30 p.m.

“The two women asked to see a French bulldog, which we allowed them to see per our protocol, and they immediately took the dog and ran out the door,” manager Andrew Jones said.

Moments after they took off with 10-month-old Mario, employees chased after them and provided information about their Chrysler PT Cruiser to police.

“They were smart enough to take the license plate off but not smart enough to wait until they were further away before they put it back on,” Jones added.

Petland Counselor Debi Pierce said that bulldogs are very popular, smart, and intelligent adding to their chic appearance.

“A lot of celebrities have them as well, so people might see them as kind of a status symbol.”
