Grant County authorities are actively looking for an inmate who fled the facility Sunday afternoon after being tasked with dumping trash outside the jail.
25-year-old Carlos Camarena is at large since he ran away at around 5 p.m. Sunday when Grant County Jail officials asked him to take the trash out.
He was a jail trustee, meaning that his exemplary behavior within the correctional facility granted him the possibility to perform some duties other inmates are not allowed to do.
He was reportedly wearing a white jail jumpsuit that he torn off before taken off. Several police agencies joined the search for Camarena that started shortly after the prison break.
A K-9 with Moses Lake Police Department picked up the runaway’s trail but Camarena managed to conceal his path.
The escapee was serving a 240-day sentence for second-degree burglary and third-degree theft and was described as non-violent.
