After body of toddler found floating in Georgia river; Woman arrested for concealing child’s death

Cobb County news, Georgia news.

A Stone Mountain woman is behind bars in connection with the death of a toddler found floating in the Chattahoochee River Thursday.

A group of Cobb County firefighters discovered the child's body filming a water safety announcement on scene.

“It’s a bit ironic that in preparing to do that, they found a child in the water that had drowned, or a deceased child, we don’t know specifically if the child drowned or not but that was a bit ironic,” Sgt. Wayne Delk commented.

Authorities arrested 27-year-old Breyanla Cooper the following day and charged her with concealing the toddler’s passing.

The child was placed in the Chattahoochee River sometime between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the suspect’s arrest affidavit said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation had released a sketch of the child late Friday in the hope of identifying them. Anyone with information can call the GBI at 770-499-4111.

“We don’t have anything to release at this point. Still waiting for that from the medical examiner’s office and the detectives.”
