A Texas death row inmate was executed Wednesday for killing three family members in 2009 including his wife and daughter.
John William Hummell’s last words were a brief prayer and a remorseful confession.
“I truly regret killing my family,” the 45-year-old said adding that he was grateful for his friends’ support. “I loved each and every one of you.”
Hummell breathed loudly and snorted for a minute as the lethal injection took effect. He was pronounced dead at 6:49 p.m.
The man was convicted of stabbing his pregnant wife Joy Hummel 35 times hen beating his 5-year-old daughter and her disabled maternal grandfather to death with a baseball bat.
“It was too easy. It was like going to sleep,” the male victim’s brother said after watching the execution, suggesting Hummel should have been executed with “a rope, a guillotine, or a firing squad.”
“There are all kinds of good stuff to kill people. They should get what they deserve; An eye for an eye. I’m sorry. I’m old school.”
