Minneapolis news, Minnesota news.

After a 10-hour long standoff with police, a Minneapolis man was taken into custody on second-degree murder charges for shooting dead his sleeping ex-wife.

Authorities said that on June 18, at around 9:15 a.m., 64-year-old Robert McCloud was at his ex-wife’s home on the 3400 block of Grimes Ave.

McCloud confessed to family members that he stood over Lauri Deatherage, 48, as she slept before firing once at her head.

During the standoff, McCloud told officers that “they’re gonna know they caught themselves a murderer and saved a suicide” and that his original plan “was to take care of business with the victim then myself but I took care of business with her and I left.”

Deatherage and the suspect divorced three years ago. Her new husband had met her three decades earlier while they stationed at the Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota.
