5-year-old girl, two adults dead; three boys critical after train crashes into their minivan

A crash involving a minivan and a freight train left three people dead and three others hospitalized in critical condition early Saturday, Indiana authorities said.

Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the victims on Sunday as Pedro Trinidad, 36; Flor Carillo, 38; and 5-year-old Evelyn Trinidad.

According to surveillance footage from the scene, the driver of the minivan seemed to ignore the activated train crossing signal and deliberately driving in the train’s gate moment before the 1 a.m. tragedy.

    The three victims died instantly while three young boys, aged between 7 and 10, were fighting for life.

    All victims were passengers of the Honda Odyssey. Their relationship was not immediately specified.
