His Way to Say Hello: Homeless man throws bottle at Gov. Newsom during trip to promote Oakland small businesses

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s trip to promote local small businesses in Oakland Friday included an attack by a furious homeless man.

The unidentified 54-year-old man approached Gavin and Mayor Libby Schaaf’s entourage as he headed to a barbershop and pizzeria in downtown Oakland that struggles with homelessness.

“This morning, the Governor was approached by an aggressive individual,” the California Highway Patrol’s statement reads.

    The man’s sister told reporters that her brother was homeless and mentally disturbed. He was booked into Santa Rita jail for assaulting a public official.

    Newsom did not seem to be impacted by the attack. He walked away into the pizza shop, telling reporters that different people have different ways of saying hello.
