South Carolina boy, 10, swept away by Big Sioux River’s current after saving drowning sister

A 10-year-old Hudson boy has passed away during a family trip to Utah’s Big Sioux River after jumping to save his sisters’ lives.

Ricky Lee Sneve was swept away by the current after successfully bringing one of his sisters to safety Saturday.

“A couple of the siblings fell in the water,” mom Nicole Eufers said. “Dad jumped in for two of them, and Ricky jumped in to save his sister Chevelle.”

After more than three hours of search launched by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at around 7 p.m., the hero boy’s body was recovered from the waters.

  • “He saved his sisters’ life and took his own,” Eufers said.

    The grieving dad described the late child as dedicated, conservative, and smart.

    “He was generous, kind, and special in more ways than I can begin to explain,” the distraught father said.

    “He was my everything, and he touched everyone he encountered. He taught me how to love and appreciate life. He never failed to amaze me.”
