Authorities in Devereux are investigating a gruesome discovery of a human body found dumped in the lawn of a home Friday afternoon.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Mary Chadler said that a tipster alerted the Hancock County Sheriff about the “deceased person” in the front yard of a Devereux home.
At around 7 p.m., officers confirmed that a human body was decomposing “in plastic bags” and may have been mutilated before being dumped outside the apparently vacant home.
Neighbors told detectives that two people lived at the home temporarily and the investigation named 33-year-old Christopher Collin Demmon as the main suspect.
“The preliminary investigation reveals that Demmon and another person lived at the residence on occasion,” the GBI said in a Sunday statement.
Demmon was arrested in South Carolina on unrelated charges. Authorities said that he had a lengthy criminal history including theft and burglary.
Witnesses are urged to call the GBI at 478-445-4173, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office at 706-444-6471, or online at gbi.georgia.gov
