St. Johns County authorities have shed more light on tampering with evidence charges that Aiden Fucci’s mom stands accused of.

Crystal Lane Smith, 35, was released on a $25,000 bond at 1:40 p.m. Saturday after she surrendered to police.

A surveillance camera from her home caught her retrieving the 14-year-old suspect’s blue jeans at around 12:55 p.m., washing and scrubbing them in the bathroom sink.

She then called in a female witness at around 13:05 p.m. and asked whether she could still spot blood stains of the pair of trousers. After several inspections, Smith returned the jeans back to her son’s bedroom.

  • “During the course of the homicide investigation, Fucci was placed with his parents in an audio and video recorded room,” Smith’s arrest warrant read.

“While in the interview room, the parents asked him about anything that would be on his clothes from the previous night. Fucci advised he was wearing blue jeans and his mom asked if he was sure there was nothing on them to which he responded “I think so, why?”

“The mom could be observed giving Fucci a questioning look and whispered: Blood.”

Detectives found that the pair of jeans was similar to that Fucci wore on May 9, the day he killed Tristyn Bailey, stabbing her 114 times.

“The blue jeans tested positive for the presence of blood. Additionally, the drain of the bathroom sink in which the defendant was observed scrubbing the blue jeans tested positive for the presence of blood,” the warrant added.
