Florida authorities said that a 14-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy have engaged them in gunfire that lasted 30 minutes before it ended with the former sustaining a severe wound.

The incident occurred Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m. when the two kids began destroying furniture at the foster residence where they found ammunition and weapons.

The girl grabbed a pump shotgun and the boy took an AK-47 rifle before they started shooting at responding cops.

  • According to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the children refused to drop their weapons, and cops were forced to fire back at them.

“Every time our deputies encounter these two little ‘desperados’, they run from us,” Chitwood said.

“We talk about juvenile justice reform? Deputies did everything they could to de-escalate and they almost lost their lives to a 12-year-old and 14-year-old.”

“If it wasn’t for their training and their supervision, somebody would’ve ended up dead.”
