North Charleston news, South Carolina news.

North Charleston authorities announced that a deadly shooting took place at a modest neighborhood during an “unauthorized” concert late Saturday.

Police officers responded to the scene at around 10:30 p.m. to find more than a dozen people, mostly youngsters, suffering gunshot wounds.

They pronounced a 14-year-old girl dead at the intersection of Piggly Wiggly Drive and West Jimtown Drive where the shooting occurred.

“The neighbors were having a cookout or whatever you want to call it in a little open field behind the house,” witness James McClam said.

“Some girls from another area, who didn’t live here, came and before you know it, a doggone argument started.”

“There are just too many youngsters walking around with guns,” the concerned dad added.

The brawl erupted near the stage during the event. Photos from the scene showed food booths, bottles, trash, and turned-over tables.

“Quite honestly, I think whoever put it on, if they were charging and making money and serving alcohol, then they need to go to jail,” Mayor Keith Summey said.

“Somebody is going to have to answer for this. You got teenagers out there with guns, and that’s ridiculous.”
