Residents of a Dallas neighborhood woke up Saturday morning to a horrific crime when a jogger stumbled upon a toddler’s body lying in a pool of his own blood in the middle of the road.
The 4-year-old victim was stabbed several times with “an edged weapon” and died “in a violent manner” at around 5 a.m. Saturday.
39-year-old Antwainese Square was the person who first spotted the little boy’s lifeless body at around 6:40 a.m. while jogging around the Mountain Creek area.
She said that she at first thought it was a dead animal because she only saw his hair but once she approached the bloody scene, she spotted the small arms and legs of a child.
“That’s when I noticed the baby had ants at the bottom of his feet, so I knew he was deceased then. It was heart-wrenching because this baby could have been no more than 5,” she recalled.
The toddler was covered in blood and had no shoes or shirt on him. She became “paranoid, and afraid” before hysterically calling 911.
An 18-year-old girl identified as Lila Gilbert said that police knocked on her family home’s door at 8 a.m. asking if they had any missing child report.
“It’s a lot to take in,” she said adding how she could see the victim’s bloody face with bruises and bite marks all over it.
“It’s so shocking to me that it’s a 4-year-old, someone’s baby. That could’ve been my little cousin or brother or something. It’s just the point that he’s gone now. It’s just terrifying.”
Police said that a man had been arrested in connection with the tragic incident. His identity was not immediately revealed.
