New Jersey teen, 16, transpierced by javelin at high school in odd incident

Police in Toms River, New Jersey are investigating an odd incident that occurred at a local high school when a teen got impaled by a javelin.

The victim, a 16-year-old, was hit at Donovan Catholic High School track-and-field javelin throw, around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.

"Upon arrival, officers were directed to an open field near the track-and-field training area," Toms River Police said where they found the injured teen.

  • He was conscious and speaking with first responders while having the javelin stuck in his right thigh.

    "The javelin was impaled several inches into his thigh; however, there was no visible bleeding, and the victim was conscious and having a conversation with first-responders."

    Firefighters cut the javelin that was embedded inches into the boy’s body "to allow for the safe transport" to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

    School officials said that it was unclear whether the victim was a student at the establishment or just taking part in an athletic activity.
