Maryland authorities announced the death of four people including a gunman who was found standing outside a Baltimore County residence on fire Saturday.
Reports of a house fire at Woodlawn neighborhood emerged at around 6:40 a.m. When police arrived at the scene, they gunned down an armed man outside the home.
Three other people, two men, and a woman were found dead while another man suffered minor injuries in the fire.
The flames destroyed two neighboring homes and damaged a third fueled by a gas leak inside the residence, prompting the gas company officials to cut off the gas supply to the home.
“We have this fire that happened; we also have this suspect who was armed,” Baltimore County Police Department spokesperson Joy Stewart said. “How they’re all related, it’s really too early to tell at this point.”
County Executive Johnny Olszewski who was at the scene of the “horrific incident” promised to provide “all possible resources” to help the victims.
“This rapidly evolving situation had required a multi-agency response and will take time to fully investigate. Today, we pray for the injured victims and the families who have lost loved ones.”
