A 34-year-old Florida father had been gunned down as he prepared his toddler’s birthday early Sunday.

US Army veteran of Afghanistan Joseph Torres was shot three times while getting food. Suspect Shaun Engram Jr., a former Marine, engaged him in a fight before killing him.

“This whole thing popped off in a matter of seconds,” Police Det. Teresa Sprague said. “This father of three lost his life but survived Afghanistan.”

The friend added that Torres had bought a dress for his daughter celebrating her 4th birthday. But sadly, he won’t give it to her.

“He had so much to live for. He just wanted to enjoy his life, enjoy his family, his children. He wanted to be there for his kids.”
