Indiana inmate awaiting trial for child abuse gets badly beaten in cell

An Indiana inmate facing attempted rape and murder against a child charges has been severely beaten inside his call Wednesday.

James Brian Chadwell II, 42, allegedly lured his next-door neighbors’ daughter, 9, to his home last month promising to let her pet his dogs.

He then held her captive in the basement for half an hour before police found her. By the time, the child was assaulted, attacked by dogs, and threatened to be killed.

Officers determined that Chadwell was planning to rape then kill the terrified girl. His family called him “an evil person, absolutely capable of hurting kids.”

  • Authorities said Wednesday that Chadwell was badly beaten inside his cell at the Tippecanoe County jail. He sustained injuries to his face.

    Chadwell is also suspected of perpetrating two murders of Delphi teens in 2017. His stepfather wasn’t surprised to learn about this.

    “Do I think that he’s capable of that kind of crime? Absolutely; He’s shown numerous times not only to his friends but his family as well that he has that kind of evil streak to him.”

    He added: “And you know, should they let him back out on the street? Not ever. Throw away the key this time.”
