Former Texas deputy arrested after gunning down ex-wife, stepdaughter, and teen’s boyfriend

Austin Police identified the shooter who had opened fire at three people Sunday killing them as a former Sheriff’s deputy.

Authorities said that 41-year-old Stephen Broderick was arrested the following day in Manor, nearly 15 miles away from the mass shooting scene.

The victims were his ex-wife Amanda Broderick, 34; her daughter Alyssa Marie Broderick, 17; and Willie Simmons III, 18.

  • The victims’ bodies were found at the scene of a double-car crash involving their vehicles. It is believed their meeting was over a child’s visit.

    Amanda Broderick had filed for divorce last summer after her then-husband was charged with separate offenses prompting him to resign from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

    “I’m truly heartbroken that a former Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputy is the suspect in such horrific incident,” Travis County Sheriff Hernandez said.
