A new deadly attack against correctional staff has taken place this time inside a Georgia prison during a transfer of an inmate to suicide watch.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies Wilson Knight, 30, and Jerome Michael Williams, 32, were among others transferring a suicidal inmate to a more secure unit on Tuesday.
“At around 2:25 a.m., inmate Albert Dewitt Booze, 22, was moved to suicide watch after making comments that he wished to harm himself. Several deputies escorted Booze to an observation cell,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement.
“During this time, a fight between Booze and deputies took place. Booze was able to obtain a knife from one of the deputies and used the knife to kill the deputy.”
Knight was pronounced dead at around 3:46 a.m. at the Atrium Health Navicent while Williams, who also sustained injuries, was treated at the same facility and discharged.
“The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the Criminal Investigation into the death of Deputy Christopher Knight,” the BCSO said.
