Maryland Navy medic gunned down after opening fire at 2 men inside local store

Fort Detrick Army base officials have confirmed that the gunman who was fatally shot and neutralized in Frederick Tuesday morning was one of theirs.

The “Navy Hospital Corpsman” opened fire near a business called NicoLock Paving Stones at around 8:20 a.m. hitting two male victims.

“The US Navy can confirm there was an active shooter incident at Fort Detrick, MD involving US Navy Sailors,” officials said in a statement.

“The shooter, a Navy Hospital Corpsman, is deceased. We will continue to update with additional details as the situation evolves.”

  • The shooting scene is about a 10-minute drive from the base: “The shooter went into the business and some people fled from the business.”

    The 38-year-old gunman then fled back to Fort Detrick where police shot him dead. His identity and those of his victims were not immediately disclosed.

    Both victims remain in critical condition. Nicolock’s director said that one of the victims reached to his business, seeking help.

    “Our team was able to assist them and called the authorities. We are pleased to report that all the Nicolock employees are safe.”
