A traffic stop led Eagle County Sheriff’s officers to discover a considerable stash of drugs in the car of a Chicago Cubs minor league’s pitcher on March 17.
Police arrested 25-year-old Jesus Camargo-Corrales who was pulled over for a routine traffic stop on St. Patrick’s Day.
The driver was “speeding and drifting in and out of the lane of travel” prompting authorities to intervene.
Camargo-Corrales and his two passengers told deputies they were on their way to Denver to teach a kids’ baseball clinic.
A K-9 dog “gave an interest to the rear wheel well of the vehicle and a final alert to an area under the rear seat.”
Officers then discovered a large duffel bag containing baseball stuff along with “a bag doused in suspected essential oils with $1000 of neatly bundled cash, several neatly packages bags of a white substance and two green packages.”
Around 21 pounds of suspected meth and a pound of suspected Oxycodone pills were seized. Camargo-Corrales was arrested and charged with distribution of drugs.
“We are aware of the arrest of one our minor-league players. We are investigating this matter and cannot provide additional comment until we have further details,” the Chicago Cubs said in a statement.
