Canton Township news, Michigan news.

A Michigan teen is facing first and second-degree charges in connection with the fatal stabbing of her 65-year-old grandmother that occurred earlier this week.

It was Cynthia Mosby’s son who called 911 at around 7 a.m. after coming upon the deceased body of his mom on her bedroom floor.

Authorities said that at the time, the 14-year-old granddaughter was not home. A search for her ended 25 miles away from the Canton Township, at a Southgate motel where she had been hiding.

“Our prayers go out to her son and family,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. “In this case, the 14-year-old girl is being adult designated because upon conviction it gives the judge the most flexibility during sentencing to provide options for rehabilitation of this very troubled youth.”

The underage suspect is being evaluated prior to her arraignment to determine whether she is competent and criminally responsible or not.
