A California couple on a trip to a popular San Diego beach got into a fierce argument that nearly ended in a tragedy Wednesday, Coronado Police said.
Jose Luis Mares, 23, and his wife went to Coronado Beach by the evening but suddenly began to argue.
Mares then became aggressive throwing the unidentified woman into the ocean then burying her alive in a hole in the sand, police said.
The frightened victim got out of her grave and ran to the street seeking help. She called the police at around 9 p.m. and “stated that her husband had just tried to kill her on the beach.”
Mares was arrested in a nearby backyard, hiding from officers. He was charged with attempted murder, assault, and domestic violence.
His wife has been taken to a trauma center while he remains at the San Diego Central Jail without bail.
